When did you start playing poker and why?
It was eight years ago, in 2008. During a wonderful 4 weeks vacations in Aruba I started playing online on the Poker Stars website by the pool of a Villa every second day. Upon my return to Montreal I knew it was just a matter of time before I hit the real live tables.
I heard about this place called “Okwari” (which is now called the Playground, renovated and much bigger). My mind was set, I had to play, as soon as I was done work I went straight to the poker club, wearing a suit and heels (I was a real estate agent) and had an enormous smile on my face knowing that this was the start of my journey :). I registered for a $1000 buy-in and good fortune was on my side, I won first place!
Why did I start playing poker you asked? Simple really, LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!!!!! It’s the rush, the adrenaline, and mostly the challenge!
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE CHASE!
Maybe you don’t know but not long ago I used to race cars too.
Where is your favorite place to play?
Hmmmmmm, so far to date I have played at many places in the province of Quebec, I also played in Las Vegas, the Caesar, the Venetian and at the Rio.
My favorite so far I would have to say, is the Playground Poker Club in Montreal. I feel most comfortable there, close to home. I always feel welcome from the staff and the players!! It’s my first love after all, right?! 🙂
If you could play heads up with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
There are so many… I’m going with Phil Hellmuth. I would like to see his game and hopefully get a few tips from him from all his experience and success at the WSOP. For now, I had the chance to shake his hand and take a picture but let’s make this happen!!!
What do you do when you are not playing poker?
What?? People do other things besides Poker???? LOL.
I think and live Poker, when I’m not playing you can usually find me at the gym, or on the slopes snowboarding. I’m a huge winter sport girl. Summertime I rollerblade, go bicycling, play tennis. We need to keep active to be good at the table!!! …..No?
How often do you play poker?
Right now I only play 2-3 times a week, with a serious sponsor I would be delighted to play everyday! 🙂
What is your most prized possession?
My son of course and my values!!! As for material possessions, there are many to choose from. I have several crowns from beauty pageants from my younger days, I participated in films with Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, and Ryan O’Neil.
A big one is the trophy which I won at the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit in 2011.The only woman to ever win there!!! I am proud to have accomplished this big challenge!
The memories of my NASCAR race in Canada against top drivers like J.R. Fitzpatrick, DJ Kennington, L.P. Dumoulin, Jacques Villeneuve, Alex Tagliani, Martin Roy, Scott Steckly. Just starting the race with them is a reward and a memory I cherish.
What is the craziest thing anyone has ever said to you at the poker table?
Not long ago I was told that I make the mistake of speaking or smiling at too many people, I had a good laugh at that!!!
I responded saying that I treated everyone the same, from the security guard, the business owner, the person with the biggest stack or the smallest, the janitor, my opponents.
I don’t care, a smile is simple and it’s free…… life is short so let’s all be nice to each other!
Just don’t be fooled… there are no friends at the poker table!
What is your most memorable moment playing poker?
I will never forget this heartwarming tournament at the “Casino de Montreal “a couple of years ago.
It was a charity tournament for the Breast Cancer Foundation with one table filled with “stars of Québec”, a tenth person was donating to the cause which gave them the chance to play with us at the table. Julie Le Breton was one of them.
I was invited due to my status as a professional race car driver. Why not, I love poker! Aaaaaahh, what an evening my friends!
Being able to help a worthy cause and I ended up winning the whole thing! I was also delighted that my first place win got me a trip to Punta Cana!!!!
What is your favorite meal and where can we find it?
To the fear of sounding pompous, it would be my homemade “tourtière“ grandma’s recipe of course.
Ask any of my friends, it’s to die for! It’s a meal that takes a lot of patience to do but it’s rewarding! Soooo good!
If I have to pick a meal in a restaurant, I will go with Nobu in Vegas or L.A, which was heavenly each time, love the black cut.
What is your favorite pastime?
I love playing backgammon, I like swimming, and I relax the most when sharing a good meal and a good bottle of wine with someone. Reading, learning, walking in the woods, I am a very passionate woman who loves a lot of things!!!
Most embarassing moment?
Do we have to talk about that??? LOL
Ok, getting bumped out on the first hand of a $500 tournament when I was holding AA. It was at my beginning but…
What can a man do to make you smile at the table?
Just wishing me “Good Luck” when I’m all in.
What are your future career goals?
To be honest I never really had the chance to play Poker full time. I am a single mother and I had to work and be there for my son.
Tomy Jo has left home to pursue a college education. It is bitter sweet for me because he is my life, I’m so proud of him, but I also miss him everyday.
The flip side of this coin, now that I am by myself, I have the opportunity to fully give 100% to Poker, I can concentrate without any distractions and let the game take me anywhere in the world.
I have faith in life, I follow my instincts and whatever life throws at me, I take it, I embrace it, and I always try to master it!!
That said, because I am an eternal fighter, my chapter on car racing is not over, I would never turn down a few more races.:)
I LOVE surprises, and I adore making people smile.
What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?
– Completing, finalizing my book which is called “A chacun sa
– Play the WSOP in Vegas in the main event.
– Traveling to Monaco to watch a Formula One race and then
play Poker in a tournament.
What would be your advice to women who are just getting involved in poker?
Believe in yourself, be yourself, trust your instincts and know that it’s not easy, but you can make it possible. Have the courage to go far or to pass over your fears.
What’s the sexiest thing about a man?
His confidence, the way he speaks to me.
His eyes need to speak to me, it does not matter what colour they are, brown, black, blue, green, I need to see his soul through his eyes.
